“UI Intra-Campus Cab and Tricycle Operators are Ambassadors of the University,” says UI VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp has said that the UI intra-campus cab and tricycle operators are ambassadors of the university, and must therefore, always ensure that they support the University management in sustaining the UI legacy of excellence.

He gave this charge while receiving members of the Intra-Campus Transport Committee (ICTC), led by its Chairman, Professor Olumide Olajide during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor's office to present the newly elected executive members of the Cab and Tricycle Operators' Association to the university management.

Professor Adebowale stated that the university receives several visitors daily; therefore, the operators ought to be the image makers of the university.

He recalled that it was in a bid to sustain its tradition of excellence that the university placed a ban on the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes on the campus, attributing the decision primarily to security concerns and atrocities committed using this mode of transportation.

While urging the operators through the new executive committee to abstain from the use of illicit drugs and consumption of alcohol, the VC disclosed that plans were afoot to engage the Federal Road Safety Commission to retrain the operators, and that they would be made to undergo regular medical checks to ensure that they are healthy.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the members of the ICTC acknowledging the complexities associated with coordinating activities in the park.
