“UI is a Godly Community that Thrives on Religious Tolerance,” says DVC

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, FSSAN, fspsp, has said that the University of Ibadan is a godly community that thrives on religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence across religious affiliations. 

He made this statement on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, while speaking at the UI Central Mosque after a special Jumat Service held for fresh students at the university as part of the events to commemorate the orientation programme for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Professor Olapegba stated that the UI Muslim Community is an integral part of the university and has been a stabilizing factor for UI, adding that the community is committed to peace and progress.

He disclosed that the special Jumat service was not a perfunctory tradition but one that lays credence to the peace experienced on campus, explaining that it is a tradition that cements relationship and has been sustained over the years.

The DVC acknowledged student leaders of the Muslim Students Association and urged them to learn to sieve information carefully before taking actions, while calling religious leaders to continue to guide student leaders on the path of religious harmony on campus. 

The Chief Imam, Professor Ibrahim O. Uthman appreciated the attendance of the management team and gave assurances of continued prayers and support, emphasizing that the Muslim Community believes in the efficacy of prayers.
