UNIABUJA CESRTA Reveals Winners of Sickle Cell Content Creation Competition
The University of Abuja’s CESRTA announced Anthony C. Ndubisi and Annette Yakubu as winners of its content creation competition, aimed at promoting free newborn screening for sickle cell disease.
The University of Abuja’s Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Research and Training (CESRTA) has unveiled the winners of its recent content creation competition, designed to promote the ongoing free newborn screening for sickle cell disease across various Primary Health Centres in the Federal Capital Territory.
Anthony C. Ndubisi, a 600-level Medicine and Surgery student, took the top spot in the jingles category. His catchy and informative composition stood out among numerous entries, effectively conveying the importance of early screening for sickle cell disease. In the video category, Annette Yakubu, a 300-level Medicine student, impressed the judges with her compelling visual storytelling and impactful messaging, earning her first place.
Both winners received monetary rewards as recognition for their outstanding work. Additionally, Ndubisi and Yakubu have been offered the opportunity to collaborate with CESRTA to refine and enhance their creations. This partnership aims to optimize the jingle and video for broader dissemination, supporting CESRTA’s ongoing awareness campaign on newborn screening for sickle cell disease.
CESRTA’s initiative highlights the vital role of creative content in public health campaigns, particularly in raising awareness and encouraging participation in essential health services. By engaging talented students in meaningful projects, CESRTA not only fosters creativity but also strengthens community efforts to combat sickle cell disease through early detection and intervention.
“We are thrilled to recognize the exceptional talents of Anthony and Annette,” said Dr. Mary Johnson, Director of CESRTA. “Their contributions will significantly enhance our outreach efforts, ensuring that more parents are informed about the availability and benefits of free newborn screening for sickle cell disease.”
The content creation competition is part of CESRTA’s broader mission to advance research, education, and public health initiatives related to sickle cell disease. Through collaborations with students and other stakeholders, CESRTA continues to drive impactful change and improve health outcomes within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
