UNIABUJA Selected to Pilot ECOWAS Club Initiative

The University of Abuja has been selected to pilot the ECOWAS Club initiative, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, announced during a visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The programme will build awareness of the regional body across the University community. Plans discussed include staff and student exchanges, as well as links to the Centres for Foreign Studies, Languages, and Migration Studies. The engagement was one of several undertaken by the Fawehinmi-led management this week.

At the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi and the Vice-Chancellor discussed possible collaboration in areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, digital infrastructure, staff development, and student innovation.

At ASR Africa, the Vice-Chancellor pitched hostel accommodation and ICT as priority projects. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ubon Udoh, invited the University to submit proposals under the organisation's Tertiary Education Grants Programme.

Thailand's Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Thirapath Mongkolnavin, also visited the new Thai Corner at the University Library. The resource space focuses on Thai language, culture, tourism, foreign policy, and cuisine. The visit is part of efforts the Vice-Chancellor hopes will strengthen ties between the University and Thailand.
