UNIBEN Honors Outstanding Figures at 48th Convocation

The University of Benin recently held its 48th convocation ceremony, during which it bestowed the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science Honoris Causa upon Mr. Kayode Adegbulugbe, the Chief Operating Officer of Green Energy International Limited. This prestigious recognition was also extended to other notable figures, including the former Governor of Lagos and immediate past Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, and Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the first lady and wife of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State. Among the honorees was Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

In a statement provided by Adegbulugbe, he expressed his deep sense of honor and humility for being acknowledged by the Senate of the University. He highlighted his contribution to the development of the Nigerian oil and gas sector, stating, "It is an honor to be considered among the other great recipients of this award like Engr Komolafe and Babatunde Fashola. Their reputation precedes them, and I feel very humbled to be recognized by this great University."

Adegbulugbe's remarkable background includes being born into a distinguished family of academics and entrepreneurs in Ibadan in 1978. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Laws in Oil and Gas Law with Distinction from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

The statement further outlined Adegbulugbe's significant achievements, emphasizing his role in leading the construction, installation, and commissioning of a 12 million standard cubic feet modular LPG extraction plant at the Otakikpo field. This achievement marked the installation of the first-of-its-kind modular LPG plant in the country, showcasing his unwavering commitment to pioneering exploits in the field.
