University of Calabar has released the official schedule for its 38th Convocation Ceremony, outlining a structured week of academic, ceremonial, and celebratory events slated to run from April 2 to April 12, 2026.

The programme begins on Thursday, April 2, 2026, with a press conference addressed by the Vice-Chancellor at the university Council Chamber, formally flagging off convocation activities.

On Tuesday, April 7, proceedings will continue with an inter-denominational service at the Senator Godswill Akpabio Conference Centre, followed by a research fair and exhibition at the Hogan Bassey Parking Lot, showcasing academic outputs and innovations.

The Convocation Meeting of Senate and stakeholders is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at the conference centre, setting the stage for the formal academic ceremonies.

A major highlight comes on Thursday, April 9, with the Convocation Lecture titled “Redefining National Security in an Era of Endemic Insecurity: The Role of Tertiary Institutions,” to be delivered by Garba Ayodeji Wahab at noon. The day will also feature a command performance at the Chinua Achebe Arts Theatre.

The main convocation ceremony holds on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Abraham Ordia Stadium, where diplomas, first degrees, and master’s degrees will be awarded. The evening will feature a gala event for Ph.D. graduates and their supervisors at the Hall of Fame.

On Saturday, April 11, the institution will confer postgraduate and honorary degrees, induct new alumni members, and formally launch its endowment fund.

The week-long programme will conclude on Sunday, April 12, with a thanksgiving service at St. Paul Catholic Church within the campus.

Graduands have been directed to collect academic gowns from faculty officers upon presentation of payment receipts, with penalties for late returns extending beyond April 13. Postgraduate candidates are also required to settle prescribed convocation fees covering gowns, scrolls, and related services.

The university further stipulated that only properly robed graduands will be allowed into the procession, with strict adherence to convocation protocols. It also noted that official photography will take place after the ceremony.
