The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar(Unical), Prof Florence Obi says the institution is ready for a mutually beneficial partnership with a Science Technology firm, -Katchey Company Limited.

Prof. Obi stated this when a team from Katchey Company Limited paid a courtesy visit to her office recently.
The University helmsman said the partnership will be of great benefit to the institution since the company specializes in Science and technology and upgrade of laboratories and Engineering equipment in institutions of higher learning.
Prof. Obi who commended Katchey for deeming it fit to partner with Unical reiterated her commitment towards the promotion of Science and Technology in line with international best practices.

Hear her, '' This partnership will be of great benefit to us because we are poised to upgrade our existing facilities in the field of Science and Technology including our laboratories and Engineering Equipment.
"With this partnership, we should have laboratory research equipment of global standards".
While describing the partnership as a welcome development, Prof Obi hinted that though the institution has a central laboratory shared by the Sciences, it is still in dire need of a standard laboratory.
Prof Obi said: '' The University Management will work out modalities to list equipment that are not in the central laboratory
We need to look at a comprehensive list of what we do not have. It should be something that can serve everyone, both staff and students''.

The Vice-Chancellor also stated that the institution will step up its research activities by setting up a Central Research Committee that will be headed by the Director of External Relations and Partnership, Prof Peter Okafor.
Speaking earlier, the Assistant General Manager, Mr Ubong Ekaidem and the Business Development Manager, of Katchey Ltd, Mr Simon Idoko said that their purpose of visit was to present a proposal for the acquisition of laboratory equipment of global standard for the institution.
Speaking in turn, they assured that Katchey Ltd will provide laboratory solutions to the University, adding that, they will supply excellent products and make delivery complete standard equipment.
''We have our footprints in different Universities including Unilag. Katchey functions as a one-stop shop for all the science equipment. Apart from providing equipment of international standards, we also source funds for the project'', they added.
The Dean of Engineering and Technology, Prof Odey Osha, former and current Deans of Physical Sciences, Prof Ayi Ayi and Prof Ekaete Enang, Deputy Dean of Biological Sciences, Dr Raegan Agbor and Director of External Relations and Partnership, Prof Peter Okafor were all key persons at the meeting.
