UNICROSS Community Bids Farewell to Late Dr. Godwin Ikani Wogar, Former Governing Council Member

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) community on Thursday, October 17, 2025, paid their final respects to Dr. Godwin Ikani Wogar, a former member of the Governing Council of the defunct Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), now UNICROSS. Dr. Wogar passed away on September 26, 2025.

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) community on Thursday, October 17, 2025, paid their final respects to Dr. Godwin Ikani Wogar, a former member of the Governing Council of the defunct Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), now UNICROSS. Dr. Wogar passed away on September 26, 2025.

A high-powered delegation led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ntufam Dr. Fidelis Ugbo, alongside the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, and other members of the university community, attended the funeral mass held at St. Benedict’s Catholic Cathedral, Ogoja.

In his homily, the Bishop of Ogoja Diocese, His Lordship Donatus Edet Akpan, described Dr. Wogar as “a man of faith and a bridge builder” whose life left lasting positive impacts on those around him.

Dr. Wogar, a respected elder statesman, pioneer educationist, and agriculturist, began his career as a teacher and went on to hold several top positions across the state and nation. His distinguished career included serving as Manager, Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort, Manager, Calaro Oil Palm Estates, Akamkpa, Manager, Livestock Breeding Centre, Okuku, Manager, Veterinary Division, Calabar, Chairman, State Tourism Board, Chairman, Governing Council of the defunct Polytechnic Calabar, and Member, 1st Governing Council of CRUTECH.

The funeral, attended by dignitaries including Senator Agom Jarigbe Agom, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, and other political leaders, was followed by interment at the deceased’s residence and a cultural display at the Ogoja Community Centre in honour of his legacy.
