In a strategic move to bolster financial literacy and economic empowerment among the youth, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CreditRegistry, Nigeria’s pioneer credit bureau, on Wednesday, 4th February 2026.

The partnership marks the establishment of the Africa Consumer Credit Academy (ACCA) within the university, an initiative designed to equip students with essential skills in financial discipline, credit management, and wealth creation.

The collaboration aims to integrate comprehensive credit education into the UNILAG student experience, ensuring that graduates are not only academically proficient but also financially savvy. The ACCA will provide a structured curriculum focused on:

Representatives from CreditRegistry noted that the academy would serve as a blueprint for institutionalizing credit culture across African higher education, ultimately driving financial inclusion and economic stability.

This partnership follows a series of high-level industrial collaborations by UNILAG aimed at bridging the gap between ivory towers and the corporate world. The University encourages students and staff to leverage the resources of the new academy to enhance their personal and professional financial health.
