UNILAG Faculty of Clinical Sciences Hosts 19th Annual Scientific Conference

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Clinical Sciences held its 19th Annual Scientific Conference from July 16-17, 2024. The event, which took place at Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, and the Old Great Hall, featured presentations and discussions on the latest advancements in Clinical Sciences.

The Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), successfully hosted its 19th Annual Scientific Conference and Gathering from July 16-17, 2024. The two-day event, held at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, and the Old Great Hall, College of Medicine, showcased significant advancements in the field of Clinical Sciences.

The conference featured a faculty gathering with a keynote lecture on “Maternal and Fetal Health: A Haematologist’s Perspective” by Prof. Vincent Oluseye Osunkalu. The scientific conference included clinical and poster presentations from various departments within the Faculty, reflecting the latest research and contributions to medical knowledge.

A highlight of the event was a lecture by Prof. Mohammed Olawale Amuda, Director of the Adewale Adetokunbo Sofoluwe Center for Information Technology and Systems, on “Artificial Intelligence in the Clinical Sciences: Shaping the Present and Influencing the Future.” Prof. Amuda emphasized the transformative role of AI in healthcare, including telemedicine, disease prediction, and patient outcomes.

Deputy Provost Prof. Daniel Odebiyi, representing the Vice Chancellor and Provost, underscored the importance of AI in revolutionizing healthcare and encouraged attendees to gain valuable insights from the conference. Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Folasade Akinsola, praised the event as a platform for intellectual exchange and recognized the Faculty’s achievements over the past year.

The conference also honored staff and retired members for their exceptional service to the Faculty and UNILAG. Distinguished guests included Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, Chief Medical Director of LUTH; Dr. Oluranti DaCosta, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences; Prof. F.E.A. Lesi, former College Provost and MDCN Board chairman; and Prof. Akin Osibogun.

The successful event highlighted the Faculty's commitment to advancing medical science and fostering academic collaboration.
