UNILAG Honors Pastor Tunde Bakare at 70, Unveils Solar Project for Faculty of Law

Themed “Let There Be Light,” the celebration featured the unveiling of a 6kVA solar power system, a gift from Pastor Bakare to his alma mater, reflecting his commitment to education and sustainability.
Held at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall, the event drew an impressive roster of dignitaries from legal, political, and academic spheres. Notable attendees included the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN; Sahara Group co-founder, Mr. Tonye Cole; and legal luminaries such as Professor Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, and Mrs. Titilayo Akinlawon, SAN.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, representing Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, expressed the university’s profound gratitude for Pastor Bakare’s timely donation. She emphasized the importance of the solar project in mitigating rising electricity costs, assuring that the Faculty of Law would judiciously manage the donation for maximum benefit.
“We will not let you down,” Professor Atsenuwa pledged. “The Faculty of Law has a track record of making the best use of every resource entrusted to it.”
Chairing the occasion, former Vice-Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe commended Pastor Bakare’s philanthropic spirit and vision. He underscored the value of giving back, noting that true success lies in uplifting others and supporting institutions that shape future generations.
“The solar project will reduce reliance on conventional energy sources, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance the operational efficiency of the university,” Professor Ogundipe stated.
Cultural performances by law students, including poignant poems celebrating Pastor Bakare’s contributions, added a touch of vibrancy to the event, showcasing the admiration he commands among the future legal community.
