On Monday, March 25, 2024, the University of Lagos welcomed a delegation from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) for the accreditation of programmes within its Department of Architecture.

Led by Architect Adedayo Odeyemi, the ARCON Panel commenced their assessment, acknowledging UNILAG's consistent track record of meeting accreditation standards over the years. Arc. Odeyemi expressed confidence in the university's ability to fulfill the panel's criteria once again and assured of an impartial evaluation.

Speaking on behalf of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola OON, FAS, affirmed UNILAG's commitment to maintaining high standards across all programmes, particularly in the Department of Architecture. She announced the university senate's approval for the elevation of the Department of Architecture into a full-fledged Faculty, underscoring management's dedication to academic excellence.

The news of the department's impending upgrade was received with enthusiasm by the ARCON panel, who commended UNILAG's proactive efforts. Prof. Ogunsola highlighted management's ongoing initiatives aimed at facilitating a seamless transition.

While assuring the ARCON panel of the department's cooperation throughout the accreditation process, the Vice-Chancellor expressed anticipation for the panel's feedback. She emphasized management's readiness to utilize the report for necessary enhancements, with the ultimate goal of positioning UNILAG's Architecture programme as a leader not only in Nigeria but also internationally.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor at the courtesy visit were key university officials including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Prof. Lucian Obinna-Chukwu, Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde, and the University Bursar, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Adekunle.
