FULAFIA Maths Dept Holds Workshop for Final Year Students

The Department of Mathematics, Federal University of Lafia, FULafia, has commenced the second edition of its five-day workshop for final year students to prepare them for life beyond the University.

The workshop, themed “Building Leaders of Tomorrow: Character, Entrepreneurship and Career Development,” was held at the Mathematics Department’s Board Room.

Declaring the programme open, the Chairman, Prof. Folorunsho Ajayi, urged the students to cultivate good character, build meaningful networks and take advantage of opportunities that could enhance their personal and professional development. 

He emphasised that academic success alone is not enough, and that students must also develop values, discipline and the ability to relate well with others to thrive in the workplace and in society.

The Head of Department of Mathematics, Dr Hassan Ibrahim, advised the students to develop the right mindset and skills required to navigate life after graduation. 

He noted that the transition from school to the world of work requires preparation, adaptability and a willingness to learn new competencies beyond the classroom.

Other speakers at the workshop spoke on leadership, entrepreneurship and career development. They highlighted the importance of continuous learning, problem-solving, self-reliance and personal development in a competitive job market.

The speakers encouraged the students to identify their strengths, explore entrepreneurial opportunities, and build careers that align with both their academic training and societal needs. They also stressed the role of integrity and resilience in achieving long-term success.

The programme featured an interactive session during which the students engaged the speakers and sought clarification on issues concerning their careers, future plans and personal development. The session provided an opportunity for mentorship and direct guidance from experienced academics and professionals.

The Department stated that the workshop is part of its commitment to producing graduates who are not only sound in mathematics but also equipped with leadership qualities and entrepreneurial skills needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
