UNILAG Hosts NUC Panels for Resource Verification of New Engineering and Surveying Programmes

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) took a significant step toward expanding its academic offerings on Monday, February 9, 2026, as it hosted two expert panels from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for a high-level resource verification exercise.

The visit aimed to assess the university’s readiness to launch two specialized programmes: a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Geomatic Engineering and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Hydrographic Surveying.

The verification exercise involved a rigorous inspection of the university’s Faculty of Engineering facilities, including specialized laboratories, technical equipment, and the library’s collection of relevant academic journals. The NUC panels also evaluated the qualifications and research profiles of the academic staff designated for the proposed departments.

If approved, these programmes will position UNILAG as a leader in specialized maritime and geospatial education, catering to the growing demand for expertise in Nigeria's blue economy and urban planning sectors.
