UNILAG Student Who Begged for School Fees Celebrates Graduation

In a heartwarming turn of events, Oluwakemi, a student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has officially graduated with a B.Sc. in Mass Communication. Her journey, which began in December 2017, has been marked by resilience, determination, and the kindness of strangers.

Oluwakemi's story first gained attention when she was spotted in the Ifako-Gbagada area of Lagos state, holding a placard that read, "Please help a final year student with her school fees. God bless you." As a part-time student, she faced immense financial pressure, struggling to raise the required N225,000 in school fees after the university announced an increase in tuition fees. Despite the reduction in some fees following student protests, many students like Oluwakemi continued to face financial challenges.

Refusing to engage in prostitution, Oluwakemi chose to beg for alms, hoping that compassionate Nigerians would support her education. Her plea touched the hearts of many, and a good Samaritan, who wishes to remain anonymous, came forward to pay her outstanding fees and promised to support her education through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and master's level.

Today, Oluwakemi stands proud as a graduate, deeply grateful to God and everyone who supported her financially along the way. "Officially a B.Sc. Mass Communication graduate from the University of Lagos! What started in December 2017 has finally come to a beautiful end today. I’m deeply grateful to God for guiding me through this journey and to everyone who supported me financially along the way. ❤️❤️," she shared.
