UNILAG's Team Phoenix Wins 2024 Energy Innovation Challenge

Team Phoenix from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Energy Innovation Challenge, securing a ₦2 million cash prize. The competition, organized by UNILAG’s Innovative Technology Management Office (ITMO) and Fabrication Laboratory (FAB-LAB), marked the highlight of the university's International Week on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Team Phoenix from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Energy Innovation Challenge, securing a ₦2 million cash prize. The competition, organized by UNILAG’s Innovative Technology Management Office (ITMO) and Fabrication Laboratory (FAB-LAB), marked the highlight of the university's International Week on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Led by Folarin Eribake, the four-member Team Phoenix—comprising two males and two females—impressed judges with their creativity and problem-solving skills, scoring 48.3 out of 50 points. Their innovative approach to sustainable energy solutions earned them first place in the prestigious challenge.

Team Agro-Alliance from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, secured second place with 46.7 points, while UNILAG’s Green Cell Innovation team finished third, with 39.3 points.

UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, praised the participants, emphasizing that the competition was not solely about winning but also about celebrating creativity and resilience. "We will continue to support initiatives that empower our students to transform challenges into opportunities," she said.

Dr. Olayinka Adewumi, Acting Director of ITMO, reaffirmed UNILAG’s commitment to fostering innovation, stating, "We are dedicated to creating a platform that empowers our future leaders in technology and innovation."

Prof. Tasleem Babatunde Ashafa from LAUTECH, delivering the vote of thanks, reflected on the importance of market acceptance for innovations. He applauded the LAUTECH team’s growth, as they improved from fourth place in a previous competition to second in this year’s challenge.
