UNILORIN Celebrates Alumna Prof. Nazmat Surajudeen-Bakinde's Appointment as USET Vice Chancellor
Prof. Nazmat Surajudeen-Bakinde, a UNILORIN alumna, has been appointed as the first female Vice Chancellor of USET in The Gambia, marking a historic achievement.
The University of Ilorin proudly congratulates Prof. Nazmat Surajudeen-Bakinde, a distinguished alumna, on her historic appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) in The Gambia.
Prof. Surajudeen-Bakinde, a seasoned academic and leader, was chosen by the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to serve in a two-year volunteer service at USET, under the Federal Government of Nigeria’s initiative. Following an extensive recruitment process conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) in The Gambia and USET’s Governing Council, she emerged as the top candidate. This led to her appointment as USET’s first substantive Vice Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the institution's history.
A proud alumna of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Surajudeen-Bakinde holds a B.Eng (1997) and M.Eng (2004) from UNILORIN, and earned her PhD from the University of Liverpool in 2010. Prior to her new role, she served as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at UNILORIN, where she contributed to the development of her field and inspired many students.
Notably, Prof. Surajudeen-Bakinde’s appointment also makes history as she becomes the first female Vice Chancellor in The Gambia, adding another layer of pride to her illustrious career and breaking new ground for women in STEM.
