UNILORIN Releases Official Statement on Campus Bus Accident
A motor accident on the University of Ilorin campus yesterday resulted in one death and several injuries among bus passengers. The university management has released an official statement regarding the incident.
The management of the University of Ilorin is saddened to announce the occurrence of a motor accident on campus on Thursday, 18th July 2024.The accident involved a commercial bus carrying ten passengers who were leaving the campus when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Upon receiving the distress call, the University Management swiftly initiated rescue operations. All victims were immediately transported to the University Health Centre, where they were attended to by a dedicated team of medical personnel.
Casualties and Medical Response:
- One victim, requiring advanced treatment, was stabilized and transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
- Four individuals with minor injuries were treated and subsequently discharged.
- Five victims, comprising two males, two females, and the bus driver, are currently receiving medical care at the University Health Centre.
- Tragically, one victim was pronounced dead upon arrival and has been transferred to the morgue. The University Management is working diligently to notify the next of kin.

University's Official Statement:
The management released an official statement regarding the incident. Mr. Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs, expressed deep sorrow over the incident on behalf of the University Management. In the press statement, Mr. Akogun extended condolences to the bereaved family and offered prayers for the quick recovery of the injured victims.

"The management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays God to comfort the family while we pray for a quick recovery of the injured victims," Mr. Akogun stated.
