UNILORIN to Transform University Secondary School into a Modern Educational Hub

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, has announced that the University management is committed to transforming the University Secondary School (USS) into a leading institution through its Vision 1:10:500 initiative. This vision aims to position USS as the top secondary school in Nigeria, among the top 10 in Africa, and within the top 500 globally.

Prof. Ambali, who also serves as the Chairman of the Governing Board of USS, made this declaration during the 34th Graduation, Speech, and Prize-Giving Day held at the African Hall on July 30, 2024. He emphasized the University's plan to integrate advanced ICT solutions to create a modern learning environment.

In his address, Prof. Ambali highlighted that classrooms are being digitized, and an ICT company from the United States will be involved in educating students on Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, teachers will receive extensive ICT training to ensure they can effectively deliver 21st-century education.

He expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents for their unwavering support of the students and urged the graduands to be inspired by the Guest Speaker, Dr. Abdulkareem Ayopo Oloyede, an alumnus of the school.

Dr. Oloyede, Acting Director of the Centre for Research Development and In-House Training (CREDIT) at the University of Ilorin, delivered a keynote address titled “The Internet and Generation Z: A Blessing or Curse?” He advised the graduands to avoid drug abuse, highlighting its detrimental effects on youth.

Dr. Oloyede underscored the dual nature of the Internet, noting its benefits such as access to information, education, social interaction, and opportunities for innovation. However, he also warned against its negative impacts, including cyberbullying, privacy violations, misinformation, and potential mental health issues.

In his opening remarks, the Principal of USS, Mr. T.N. Durojaiye, thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor for their continued support.
