The University of Abuja has laid the foundation stone for the main site of the Abuja Leadership Centre (ALC), a TETFund Centre of Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, marking a major step in strengthening leadership development and governance capacity in Nigeria.

The University of Abuja has laid the foundation stone for the main site of the Abuja Leadership Centre (ALC), a TETFund Centre of Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, marking a major step in strengthening leadership development and governance capacity in Nigeria.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the University’s Jahi Campus and was jointly performed by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Dr. Sonny Echono, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.

Speaking at the event, Professor Fawehinmi commended TETFund for its sustained support to tertiary education and expressed confidence that the Abuja Leadership Centre would emerge as a national hub for leadership training, policy dialogue, and governance engagement across the country.

Dr. Echono reaffirmed TETFund’s commitment to the successful completion of the project, disclosing that the intervention agency would also provide furniture and equipment for the Centre. He noted that the strategic location of the ALC positions it to effectively serve leaders from various sectors nationwide.

In his remarks, the Director of the Abuja Leadership Centre, Professor Phillip Dahida, charged the contractor handling the project to ensure strict adherence to approved specifications, timelines, and agreed quality standards to guarantee the successful delivery of the Centre.
