University of Abuja Hosts Chinese Vice Minister of Education at Luban Workshop

The Vice Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wu Yan, recently visited the Luban Workshop at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Abuja (UofA). The visit underscored the strengthening collaboration between UofA and two leading Chinese institutions: Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Science and Tianjin Railway Technical and Vocational College. This collaboration supports UofA’s Railway Engineering program, a pioneering initiative launched last academic session.

The Chinese delegation was warmly received by Professor Philip Afaha, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration at UofA, on Tuesday. During the visit, Mr. Wu Yan commended the university's commitment to technical and vocational education, particularly in rail-related specialties, and highlighted the vital role Luban Workshops play in equipping technical personnel with essential skills.

The University of Abuja is one of ten African universities selected by the Chinese government to host Luban Workshops. These workshops aim to enhance local capacity in rail engineering through hands-on training and state-of-the-art equipment. UofA's Faculty of Engineering, particularly the departments of Electrical Electronics and Railway Engineering, is now among the best-equipped in Nigeria, thanks to this partnership.
