UNIZIK Acting VC Exposes Admission Racketeering, Orders Refund of ₦1 Million
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has uncovered another case of admission racketeering within the institution, leading to the arrest of two staff members involved in the illegal act.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Njelita Louis O., the two staff members, Mr. Ekene Okeke of the Fuel Surveillance Unit and Mrs. Nkiru Okonkwo of the Council Unit, Registry, were apprehended after collecting the sum of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) from Miss Nwangwu Chiamaka Victoria under the guise of securing admission for her into the 2024/2025 academic session in the Faculty of Medicine. The deal was later renegotiated for admission into Environmental Health Science.

The victim, Miss Victoria Nwangwu, reported the matter to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, who immediately ordered the Chief Safety Officer, Chief Ken Chukwurah, to commence an investigation. Following the findings, Professor Arinze-Umobi directed the culprits to refund the one million naira by Wednesday, 5th November 2025.
Reiterating the university’s firm stance on ethical conduct, Professor Arinze-Umobi emphasized that “admission is free” and warned staff and members of the public against acts capable of tarnishing the image of the institution. She further noted that the matter would be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee for necessary action.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor also commended Chief Ken Chukwurah for his diligence and integrity in handling the investigation, reaffirming her administration’s zero tolerance for corruption and malpractice within the university system.
