Fatima Mohammed Abubakar, a 300-level Electrical Engineering student from Sokoto, has made history by becoming the first female Convener of the University Scholars Forum at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS). Her appointment was announced during the University Scholars Colloquium (USC 3.0), held on September 22, 2024, under the theme "Transforming Scholarships to Leadership: Building the Nigeria We Want."
The University Scholars Forum serves as an educational hub for learning and networking among top academic intellectuals, offering webinar sessions that equip members with essential skills and information for academic success. Traditionally, the leadership role of Convener has been held by male students since the forum's establishment three years ago.
Expressing her gratitude for the appointment, Fatima acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing executives, particularly the immediate past convener, Ajibike Abdulbasit Abiodun, for his exemplary leadership.
"The appointment has come as a pleasant surprise," she stated, thanking the Board of Trustees for entrusting her with this significant responsibility. Fatima emphasized the importance of teamwork in creating an inclusive environment where knowledge is pursued as a collective journey.
She also acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, "Challenges and obstacles will test our resolves. However, it is in overcoming these challenges that we truly grow together: turning challenges into opportunities and paving the way for innovation, success, and academic excellence." Fatima affirmed her commitment to collaborating with all members to enhance the forum's standing.
