 The acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kano, Sadi Sirajo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his decisive action in upgrading the Federal College of Education (FCE), Kano, to a University of Education. Sirajo made these remarks in a telephone interview with journalists on Monday, highlighting the significance of this development for the education sector in Nigeria.

Sirajo described the President's assent to the conversion bill as a "bold step" that demonstrates the Tinubu-led government's commitment to re-engineering the nation's education system for optimal growth. "President Tinubu deserves accolades for taking the bold step to uplift the standard of the Federal College of Education, Kano, to the status of a university," he stated.

Expressing optimism about the future, Sirajo noted that the conversion would not only enhance academic excellence but also create opportunities for the numerous applicants seeking admission. He commended the President for his quick implementation of the upgrade, emphasizing that it would promote both formal and informal employment in the region.

"We anticipate the establishment of additional departments and faculties that will offer professional courses in high demand in the 21st century," he added. Sirajo assured that the university's qualified personnel would receive ample support to ensure a successful launch.

He further mentioned that the existing infrastructure at the campus is sufficient for the university's smooth commencement. Reflecting on the long journey towards this achievement, he acknowledged the collective efforts of many well-meaning Nigerians dedicated to advancing teacher education in the country.

"The struggle for the actualization of this upgrade has been ongoing for many years, and we are grateful that it has finally come to fruition," he said. Sirajo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, and members of the National Assembly who played crucial roles in making this dream a reality.

He extended special commendations to Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajuddeen Abbas for their relentless efforts in supporting the upgrade. "They have done a great job for their people," he concluded.

The newly established University of Education is poised to significantly contribute to producing the necessary manpower to effectively manage the education sector in the northern region and across Nigeria.
