Veteran Biology Teacher Questions JAMB Score After Recording Unexpectedly Low Mark

A Nigerian educator with nearly two decades of classroom experience is calling for a review of his JAMB score after receiving a surprisingly low mark in Biology.

John Felix Obuighkem, a  Nigerian secondary school teacher has publicly questioned the accuracy of his 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, after scoring just 37 in Biology, a subject he has taught for 18 years.

Obuighkem, who holds a degree in Biology, shared his concern in a Facebook post that has since gained attenion online. He expressed disbelief over the low mark, stating that it did not reflect his level of expertise or his performance in the exam.

"Please, someone should contact Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, and ask him to recheck my results," Obuighkem wrote. "Those who know me can testify that I am not someone who would perform this poorly, especially in Biology."

The teacher recalled his previous attempts at the UTME, where he consistently scored over 200 marks even when the examination was considered more rigorous than it is today. He argued that his years of experience and formal training should have made it impossible to score so low in his subject area.

“In the past, when JAMB questions were tougher, I never scored below 200. Now, with relatively simpler questions, including basic grammar and comprehension, I ended up with a score like this?” he questioned.

Obuighkem has urged JAMB to re-evaluate his results and ensure there was no error in the grading process. His appeal has sparked a wider conversation online about transparency and accuracy in standardized testing.
