Yakubu Gowon University (UNIABUJA) Council Ratifies New DVCs; Extends Acting Registrar’s Tenure
The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (newly renamed Yakubu Gowon University), led by Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has officially ratified the appointments of two Deputy Vice-Chancellors and approved a key administrative extension.
Following their unopposed selection by the University Senate, Professor Rosemary Udeozor and Professor Muhammad Umar Ndagi have been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellors for Academic and Administration, respectively. The appointments, effective from February 13, 2026, were finalized during the Council’s 82nd Extraordinary Meeting.
Both senior academics pledged their full support to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, to foster a harmonious and productive academic environment.
Distinguished Profiles:
Professor Rosemary Kanene Udeozor (DVC, Academic): A Professor of Educational Administration and Planning since 2009. An alumna of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, she has served as Director of General Studies and is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Education.
Professor Muhammad Umar Ndagi (DVC, Administration): A Professor of Arabic Linguistics with over 45 years of teaching experience. A former Dean of Arts and Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies, he holds advanced degrees from ABU Zaria and the International Institute for Arabic Language, Sudan.
In a separate development, the Governing Council approved the extension of Mal. Sambo Mohammed’s appointment as the Acting Registrar. Initially appointed in November 2025, Mal. Sambo will continue to lead the university’s registry pending the selection of a substantive registrar.
