Young African Woman Sets Record as First Female Commercial Pilot
Out of approximately 1,500 candidates, Aya was one of 15 selected, and the only woman, to undergo rigorous training at the National Polytechnic Institute Houphouët Boigny (INPHB) for the theoretical phase, followed by practical training in France. The entire training process took two years and four months.

Aya Gertrude Konan, a young woman from Ivory Coast, has made history by becoming the first female commercial pilot trained by the State of Côte d'Ivoire. Aya, who began her aviation career as a flight attendant, achieved her dream of becoming a pilot through perseverance and dedication.
Aya holds a degree in Marketing and Advertising and has been passionate about aviation since childhood. Due to financial constraints, she initially worked as a flight attendant from April 2013 to October 2015. However, in 2014, Air Côte D’Ivoire launched a competition to recruit and train young Ivorians in aeronautical professions, and Aya seized the opportunity.

Aya has since earned qualifications to fly the Bombardier Dash Q400 and has become the first Ivorian female airline pilot. "When I fly, it’s just the sky and me. It’s a marvel, a freedom," she said, expressing her passion for aviation.
