The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the opening of its portal for student loan applications.

This announcement was made by Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director of NELFUND, in a statement signed by Nasir Ayitogo, the Media and Public Relations Lead. The press statement reveals that the application period for student loans through its portal will commence on May 24.

Sawyerr emphasized that the portal will enable students to access loans and pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints. According to the statement, the scheme will initially benefit 1.2 million students, and the funds would be paid directly to the tertiary institutions of the benefiting students. The students would also be entitled to stipends, which would be paid directly to them.

The statement reads, "The management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), led by its Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, is pleased to announce May 24, 2024, as the official date for the opening of the portal for student loan applications. This marks a significant milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's (GCFR) commitment to fostering accessible and inclusive education for all Nigerian students. Through the portal, students can now access loans to pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints. The portal provides a user-friendly interface for students to conveniently submit their loan applications."

NELFUND also encourages students to take advantage of this initiative, stating, "We encourage all eligible students to seize this opportunity to invest in their future and contribute to the growth and development of our nation."
