FG Donates Laptops to Public School Students in Abuja to Boost Vocational Education
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the private sector, launched the second edition of its laptop donation initiative, targeting secondary school students to enhance technical and vocational education.

In a bid to achieve the federal government’s goal of training five million Nigerians annually in various skills, the second edition of the laptop donation initiative was launched, benefiting secondary school students across the country. The project was inaugurated on Thursday, September 26, by Ms. Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, at Government Secondary School, Tundun Wada, Abuja.
During the event, 50 laptops were donated to the students, marking a significant step towards enhancing technical and vocational education in Nigeria. This initiative, a collaborative effort with the private sector, aims to develop technical skills among secondary school students and aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Ms. Arogundade emphasized that the laptop donation is part of a broader Presidential mandate to equip young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven economy. "I am here with my team to donate tablets to 50 Junior Secondary School students of this institution as part of our mandate by the President to promote skills training among the upcoming generation of Nigerians,” she stated.
President Bola Tinubu has directed relevant government agencies, including the Office of the SSA on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, to ensure the training of at least five million Nigerians in diverse skills each year. The goal is to foster employability and self-employment among graduates, aligning with the administration’s focus on practical, skill-based education.
“This donation is part of a series we began in July last year, aimed at stimulating innovation in technical, vocational, and entrepreneurship education among youths. Our objective is to shift the education system from a heavy focus on theory to more practical, hands-on learning, keeping Nigeria competitive in the global technology landscape,” Arogundade added.
The initiative has already started with selected students from Government Secondary School, Tundun Wada, as a motivation for academic excellence. Ms. Arogundade assured other students that similar opportunities would be extended to them in the future to ensure no one is left behind.
Judith Okafor, a representative of Afriobe Limited, the technical partner for the project, expressed pride in the collaboration with the federal government. “Through our partnership, Afrifone Ltd will empower technical students with state-of-the-art tablets that function as mini laptops, equipping these young minds with the digital tools needed for their education and future careers,” she said.
The laptop donation is expected to have a transformative impact on vocational and technical education in Nigeria, promoting practical skills that prepare students for a rapidly evolving job market.
