The Zamfara State Government has called for a collaborative effort with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in addressing the critical issues of drug abuse and human trafficking. This appeal was made by Pharm. Ishaq Ibrahim Anka, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse Control and Human Trafficking Agency, during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Secretariat on Monday.

Pharm. Anka highlighted drug abuse and human trafficking as significant global issues with severe repercussions for people of all ages. He emphasized that the agency, established by Governor Dauda Lawal, is dedicated to tackling these problems in Zamfara through various planned initiatives.

Describing the NYSC as a pivotal institution in shaping future leaders, Pharm. Anka requested the Scheme's support in raising awareness and deploying qualified personnel to aid in their mission. "The NYSC plays a crucial role in molding tomorrow's leaders, and we believe your involvement can significantly bolster our efforts against these pervasive issues," he said.

In response, the NYSC Zamfara State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammed Lawan Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the agency's outreach and commitment to collaborating with the NYSC. He underscored the seriousness of drug abuse, noting its link to broader societal problems such as criminality. "Drug abuse is a pressing concern that contributes to various societal issues. Through our Community Development Service (CDS) initiatives, we are actively engaged in campaigns against drug abuse and human trafficking," Mallam Lawan stated.

He assured the agency of the NYSC's readiness to collaborate, highlighting that corps members are already involved in awareness campaigns on these issues. Additionally, Mallam Lawan emphasized that orientation camp activities include sensitization programs on drug abuse, illegal migration, and human trafficking.

The meeting was attended by key NYSC officials, including Assistant Director of Human Resource Management (HRM), Mr. Jacob Yawa, and the Assistant Director of Community Development Service (CDS), Alhaji Sani Bayero. Pharm. Anka’s delegation included Mustapha Alhaji Garba, Director of Administration, Nasiru Abdullahi, Director of Human Trafficking, Murtala Garba, Staff Officer, and Aminu Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary.

The collaborative effort aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to enhance public awareness and address these critical issues more effectively across the state.
