The university's vice-chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, revealed that 20 students were initially arrested and handed over to the police. After preliminary investigations, 12 of these students remain in police custody. The incident has prompted the university to expel the involved students and take measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Prof. Adebayo stated, "The university has declared a three-day mourning to be observed by all students, along with fasting and prayers involving the management, staff, board of trustees, and representatives of the overseeing church from Wednesday to Sunday."
Additionally, the porter on duty during the incident has been detained by the police in Ibadan. The university administration has emphasized the importance of security and vigilance, urging students to report any suspicious activities to the management.
This tragic event has led ACU to enhance security protocols and monitoring on campus. The university community is urged to come together in solidarity and ensure the safety and well-being of all its members.
