137 Schoolchildren, Not 287, Abducted in Kaduna, Governor Clarifies

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has provided clarification regarding the number of schoolchildren abducted in the state. Contrary to previous reports indicating 287 abducted children, Governor Sani stated that the actual number of abducted schoolchildren from Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state was 137.

Governor Sani made this clarification during an appearance on Channels Television's Sunday Politics program. He emphasized that the initially reported figures were inaccurate and merely "figments of people's imaginations." He further explained that the military, in collaboration with local authorities from Zamfara State, successfully rescued all the abducted children from the bandits.

Expressing relief over the rescue operation, Governor Sani conveyed his happiness, along with that of the affected families and the state government. The abducted schoolchildren were taken from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga on March 7, 2024.

In contrast to earlier reports, the Defence Headquarters announced on Saturday that a total of 137 students had been successfully rescued from captivity.
