In a shocking development, the Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 14-year-old girl, Joy Afekafe, in connection with the murder of Dr. (Mrs.) Funmilola Sherifat Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMinna). Dr. Adefolalu's lifeless body was discovered at her residence in the Gbaiko area on the outskirts of Minna.

Police operatives from the Bosso Division of the Niger State Police Command were called to the scene and recovered two knives with bloodstains that are believed to have been used in the heinous crime. The victim's body was subsequently taken to IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna, where she was pronounced dead.

During the course of the investigation, the police interviewed neighbors and friends of the victim's family, ultimately leading to the arrest of Joy Afekafe, who had previously served as the deceased lecturer's housemaid for three weeks before being terminated for misconduct.

Disturbingly, Afekafe confessed during questioning that she, along with her classmates identified as Walex and Smart, hatched a plan to attack Dr. Adefolalu. The suspects reportedly went to the lecturer's residence on October 28, 2023, arriving on a motorcycle. Afekafe claimed she was the one who lured the victim to open the gate, allowing Walex and Smart to enter. The assailants then allegedly subjected the lecturer to a brutal assault, including beating her, hitting her head with a stand, and stabbing her with knives. They also stole her phone, laptop, and removed the car battery from the vehicle parked in the compound before fleeing the scene.

The police have assured that Joy Afekafe will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other suspects who remain at large. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising serious questions about the safety of individuals in their own homes.
