16-Year-Old Student Appointed as Ogun State's One-Day Commissioner for Education
Oluwagbemisoke Alaka, a brilliant SS3 student from African Grammar School, Ita Iyalode, Abeokuta, has made history by serving as Ogun State's One-Day Commissioner for Education, Science & Technology.
This remarkable opportunity arose after she won an essay competition organized by the Adebiyi Habib Foundation, which attracted over 300 participants across the state.
During her tenure, Alaka demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, touring various departments, signing documents, and gaining valuable insights into public service. She also used this platform to advocate for better ICT facilities in public schools, more support for computer-based learning, and improved motivation and welfare for teachers. Her emphasis on the importance of functional ICT centers in schools highlights the need for students to stay competitive in today's technology-driven world.
The substantive Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, praised Alaka's brilliance and encouraged other students to follow her example. The Founder of the Adebiyi Habib Foundation, Habib Adebiyi, stated that the program aims to build leadership skills in young people, with their initiatives already impacting over 50,000 students.
Alaka described her experience as life-changing and urged other students to chase their dreams boldly. This inspiring story showcases the potential and capabilities of young leaders in shaping the future of education and society.
