The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 80,810 candidates who initially registered for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) did not participate in the six-day exercise.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 80,810 candidates who initially registered for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) did not participate in the six-day exercise.

The UTME, spanning six days, commenced on Friday, April 19th, and concluded on Monday, April 29th. A total of 1,989,668 candidates registered for the examination. However, only 1,904,189 registered candidates actually appeared for the test during this period.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of JAMB, made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, April 29. He clarified that the 2024 UTME saw 1,989,668 candidates registering, including those who registered at foreign centers. Additionally, Direct Entry registration is still ongoing.

Interestingly, some Nigerians attribute the issue of candidates missing their examinations to difficulties in finding their way to the examination centers. Some JAMB candidates even report encountering traffic delays on their journey to the examination venues.
