Abia: WAEC Disassociates Itself from Misleading Reports on State Performance in WASSCE 2023

In a press release issued today, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has emphatically distanced itself from a viral social media report erroneously claiming Abia State as the best-performing state in Nigeria's WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023.

Moyosola Adesina, the spokesperson for WAEC, declared the publication as "far from the truth" and clarified that the Council does not engage in ranking states based on examination performance. Adesina emphasized, "For the avoidance of doubt, the West African Examinations Council does not rank the performance of states in its examination. This is what we have always stated."

The spokesperson further cautioned the public against giving credence to misleading information circulating on mischievous platforms. Adesina pointed out the political undertones, stating, "They are trying unsuccessfully to drag the Council into the political arena and bring its good name to disrepute with the intention to cause disharmony among the states competing for superiority."
