ABSU Implements Price Reductions and Sanitation Measures in Hostels
SUG Welfare Committee successfully negotiates reduced prices for commodities and improves sanitation in Abia State University hostels, enhancing student welfare.
In a significant development aimed at enhancing the welfare of students at Abia State University, the Students Union Government (SUG) Welfare Committee recently conducted a thorough visit to the university hostels. The visit focused on addressing pressing issues including price reduction of commodities, sanitation, and monitoring expired goods in various shops within the hostel premises.
Following extensive negotiations, the committee successfully secured notable reductions in the prices of essential items sold within the hostels. Sachets of pure water, previously sold at higher rates, will now be available at more affordable prices. Previously, a single sachet was sold for 50 naira, but now students can purchase two sachets for the same price, or four sachets for 100 naira. Additionally, the price of a bag of pure water has been reduced from 400 naira to 350 naira.

Furthermore, the committee addressed concerns regarding Point of Sale (POS) charges, advocating for fairer rates for financial transactions. Previously, a charge of 200 naira was applied for a 5000 naira transaction, but now students will only incur a charge of 100 naira for the same amount.
