Nasarawa State University ICEMIDS Programs to Launch in 2025, Says Hon. Tijjani
This development was disclosed by the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Honorable Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, during a familiarization visit by the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, at the Commission's headquarters.
The International Centre of Excellence for Migration & Humanitarian Development Studies (ICEMIDS) at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants & Internally Displaced Persons, is set to commence academic activities in 2025.

Honorable Tijjani revealed that the construction estimates for the Centre of Excellence have been included in the Commission’s 2025 budget. He explained that many tertiary institutions had been vying for the project, but Nasarawa State University, Keffi, was chosen due to its strong pedigree and the vast human capital resources available to support the program. He assured that the Commission would provide the necessary support for the successful launch of the program in 2025.
In her remarks, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman expressed gratitude for the Honorable Commissioner’s commitment to the initiative. She noted that the visit was to familiarize herself with the Commission’s activities and follow up on the progress of the ICEMIDS establishment. She assured that the university would fulfill its obligations as outlined in the signed Memorandum of Understanding.
The delegation accompanying the Vice-Chancellor included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Theophilus Daniel Lagi, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Maikano Ari, Professor Nathaniel Goki, the Director of the Global Health and Infectious Diseases Institute (GHIDI), Dr. Akyala Ishaku, and the Deputy Dean of Administration, School of Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Habiba Musa.
The ICEMIDS at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, will be the first of its kind in Africa, focusing comprehensively on migration and humanitarian development issues. These include internal displacement, forced migration, refugee and asylum seeker studies, brain drain, brain circulation, remittances, and migration's role in development. The centre will offer a range of postgraduate programs, including Postgraduate Diplomas, Professional Masters, Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in various related fields. P
