PLASU Launches Pioneering Student Guidance and Counseling Initiative with TETFund Support

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the academic and professional journey of its students by offering free guidance and counseling services on career choices. The university is now among the first ten Nigerian institutions to establish a career service center, marking a significant step in preparing students for future employment and national development. The initiative was made possible through funding from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under its 2024 Allocation to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

The launch event, which included a workshop for faculty officials, was led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of PSU, Professor Shedrack Best. The workshop, designed to equip Deans, Directors, and Heads of Department with the necessary skills to guide students effectively, is part of a broader strategy to establish a robust career service program at the university. This follows the establishment of the center earlier in March 2024.

"The initiative is aimed at developing the university community, ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills for careers that are both fruitful and impactful to national development," he said.

The center’s head, Dr. Anna Fakah, highlighted the importance of the new initiative, stating that the career service center will provide various career-related services to students and alumni, including job placement assistance and career counseling. "Our goal is to ensure that students and alumni make informed career choices and are equipped to succeed in a competitive job market," Dr. Fakah remarked.
