ABSU Suspends Lecturer Over Alleged Sexual Harassment

Abia State University, Uturu, has suspended Dr. Udochukwu Emmanuel Ndukwe, a lecturer in Mass Communication, for three months over allegations of sexual harassment involving a female student. The suspension follows a video circulating online showing the lecturer being interrogated after allegedly being set up by the student.

Abia State University, Uturu, has taken decisive action by suspending Dr. Udochukwu Emmanuel Ndukwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, for three months following allegations of sexual harassment involving a female student.

Reports indicate that Dr. Ndukwe has faced repeated accusations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and extortion from female students within the department. The suspension comes after a video surfaced showing the lecturer, reportedly naked and on his knees, being interrogated by individuals.

The incident allegedly unfolded when a final-year female student, who had purportedly been harassed by Dr. Ndukwe for two years, orchestrated a setup at a popular hotel. It was noted that the lecturer recently married in 2022 and obtained his PhD this year.

In a letter dated July 30, 2024, and signed by the university's registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, Dr. Ndukwe's actions were described as an "embarrassment" to the institution. The letter detailed the suspension, stating, "You are to hand over any university property in your possession to your Head of Department."

Furthermore, a panel has been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations against the suspended lecturer. The university's decision was made "in line with the University Conditions of Service pending the conclusion of the investigation," the letter confirmed.

The Vice-Chancellor, representing the university's Governing Authorities, approved the suspension with half salary as per the university's policy. The directive concluded with a strict notice for all university authorities to adhere to the terms of the suspension.

The move underscores the university's commitment to addressing issues of misconduct and upholding a safe and respectful academic environment for all students.
