ABU Vice-Chancellor Commissions Twin Theatre, Multipurpose Hall, and Leadership Centre

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, commissioned three major projects on the Samaru and Kongo campuses, including a 300-seater twin theatre, a multipurpose hall, and a leadership centre.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, has commissioned three significant projects on the Samaru and Kongo campuses, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and infrastructural development.

The projects include a 300-seater capacity twin theatre, a multipurpose hall, and a leadership centre, all designed in line with the university’s master plan. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Prof. Bala expressed satisfaction with the architectural designs, attributing them to the Physical Planning and Municipal Services (PP&MS) unit of the university.

Prof. Bala highlighted the role of PP&MS as the custodian of university buildings and properties, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining them for future generations. He also pointed out that the unit was responsible for two outstanding buildings at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika.

Director of PP&MS, Architect Suleiman Muhammad, explained that the twin theatre project initially had a proposed 500-seater capacity but was redesigned under Prof. Bala’s administration to include two 300-seater halls. He credited the transformation of PP&MS to the leadership of Prof. Abubakar Abdullahi, whose tenure as Acting Director significantly improved the unit’s performance.

Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof. Abdullahi Abubakar, commended the Vice-Chancellor for entrusting him with the responsibility to enhance PP&MS, stating that the team had successfully delivered on its mandate. He expressed pride in the completion of the Faculty of Environmental Design Phase II, which further solidifies the university’s commitment to academic infrastructure.

The commissioning event was attended by key university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Raymond Bako; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. M.N. Shuaibu; Acting University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed; and Dean of Students Affairs Division, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu. Others present were the Director of the Institute of Administration, Prof. Abubakar Madaki; Acting Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T. Zango; and the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Yusuf Mohammed.

The newly commissioned facilities are expected to enhance learning, research, and leadership development within the university, further positioning Ahmadu Bello University as a leading academic institution in Nigeria.
