AE-FUNAI VC Innaugurates TISHIP Committee

As part of his goal of providing quality, accessible and sustainable healthcare service delivery to students, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom, has inaugurated a Committee to oversee the operations and activities of the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP) in the institution.

As part of his goal of providing quality, accessible and sustainable healthcare service delivery to students, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom, has inaugurated a Committee to oversee the operations and activities of the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP) in the institution.

While inaugurating the Committee, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by his Deputy in charge of Administration, Prof. Abel Ezeoha noted that the University decided to key into the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme because of the premium it places on students’ health and general wellness, adding that members of the Committee were carefully selected to ensure that the mandates were achieved.

 

Myschoolnews reports he urged the management to ensure that the funds for the programme were managed with transparency and accountability, adding that the University is committed to providing students with quality healthcare service delivery in the school clinic and beyond.

 

Prof. Elom, therefore charged the Committee to domesticate the operational guidelines of the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP) as enunciated by the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA), in the university.

 

Earlier while highlighting the benefits of TISHIP to both the University and its students, the Ebonyi State Coordinator, National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA), Dr. Ken Ogbu emphasized that the health programme is meant to cater for the wellbeing of the students on campus through the provision of quality and accessible healthcare.

 

He noted that the pool of funds contributed by students for the running of TISHIP, are categorized into – Capitation (65%), Fee-for-Service (20%), HMO (10%) administrative cost (5%)

 

He further advised members of the Committee to abide strictly by the TISHIP operational guidelines, warning that as the Agency overseeing National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria, they would monitor their activities to ensure strict compliance to the established guidelines.

 

The members of the AE-FUNAI TISHIP Committee are; Director, Health Services, Dr. Henry Aloh – Chairman, Registrar or representative – member, Bursar or representative – member, Dean, Students’ Affairs or representative – member, representative of students – member, representative of NHIA – member and Head, General Administration/Legal, Barr. Ogochukwu Onuorah- Secretary.

 

The Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Henry Aloh, in his response assured the NHIA that the operational guidelines for the programme would be properly followed for the health benefits of students of the University.

 

He also thanked the NHIA for their supervisory role in the health insurance sub-sector of Nigeria, and the University Management for their fervent support to the university clinic in providing quality Medicare to staff and students.
