Ahmadu Bello University Hosts First Herbal Medicine Conference

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in collaboration with the Pan-Africana Strategic and Policy Research Group, Lagos, held the first Herbal Medicine National Scientific Conference on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The conference, themed “Herbal Medicines: From Seeds to Products,” took place at the School of Postgraduate Studies Auditorium, Samaru Campus, Zaria.

The conference, the first of its kind at ABU, attracted participants from across the globe, both physically and virtually. During the opening ceremony, ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, praised the Faculty for addressing the significance of herbal and traditional medicine in healthcare. He encouraged fruitful discussions during the technical sessions.

Prof. Aliyu Muhammad Musa, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, appreciated the support from the university's management and expressed gratitude to the participants and guests. The event featured remarks from Prof. Lawal A. Bichi, who emphasized the untapped potential of Nigeria’s herbal resources, calling for more productive use of locally available raw materials.

The conference was attended by prominent figures, including members of the University Governing Council led by Chairman Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, and other senior university officials.
