Akcils Ag. Provost Pays Homage To Rural Electrification Agency, Seeks Solar Mini-Grid For The College

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, AKCILS, Kano, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu'az, has paid a working visit to the Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency, REA, Alhaji Abba Abubakar Aliyu, to solicit the Agency's intervention and support for the provision of a solar mini-grid for the College.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Tamasi explained that the proposed solar mini-grid would enhance and complement the efforts of the Kano State Government in meeting the growing academic and administrative energy demands of the College.

The Acting Provost expressed appreciation to the Managing Director for the Agency's previous interventions in the College, particularly the installation of several solar-powered streetlights.

"We are here to formally acknowledge and appreciate your efforts and the various interventions your Agency has executed in our College, especially the installation of numerous solar-powered streetlights under your stewardship," Dr. Tamasi said.

He further noted that despite the College's efforts to maintain electricity supply through standby generators, frequent power outages and the rising cost of fuel have significantly increased operational expenses and disrupted academic activities.

"These challenges have hindered access to online learning resources and raised serious concerns about the safety and security of both students and staff," he added.

In his response, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Alhaji Abba Abubakar Aliyu, thanked the Acting Provost for the visit and described the initiative as a commendable demonstration of visionary leadership.

"What makes me happy is your commitment, resilience and dedication. You took the initiative to come all the way to Abuja despite the challenges and protocols involved therein. This clearly demonstrates your readiness to confronting the challenges facing your institution," he said.

He added that many leaders would have remained in their offices, but the Acting Provost chose to seek practical and lasting solutions for the College.

The Managing Director assured the Acting Provost of the Agency's support and requested the College to submit a list of about 20 critical locations requiring urgent electricity intervention for immediate energy audit and load analysis.

"Once you forward the list, our engineers will visit the College to conduct an energy audit and load analysis. By the grace of Allah, the College will be considered under our Green Bond Project," the Managing Director assured.

He thanked the Acting Provost for the visit and reaffirmed the Rural Electrification Agency's commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving access to sustainable energy in educational institutions.
