Akpabio Awards ₦500,000 to Akwa Ibom Students, Distributes Fertilizers to Farmers
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has launched a significant empowerment initiative in Akwa Ibom State, awarding ₦500,000 to each of 45 students under the Godswill Akpabio Scholarship Scheme while also distributing 16,800 bags of fertilizers to local farmers.
In a major empowerment drive, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has awarded ₦500,000 to each of 45 students from Akwa Ibom State as part of the Godswill Akpabio Scholarship Scheme. The presentation took place during the official flag-off of a fertilizer distribution campaign in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state. The initiative saw the distribution of 16,800 bags of fertilizers to local farmers.
Akpabio, who made the scholarship awards during the event, expressed his dedication to supporting education and human capital development in the state. The scholarships, which are part of the second tranche under his scheme, are aimed at assisting students in tertiary institutions to meet their academic needs.
Speaking at the event, Akpabio emphasized the importance of supporting the youth and ensuring they receive the resources needed to excel in their education. He stated, "When I was campaigning to be your Senator, I promised to give you quality and effective representation by influencing life-changing projects, human capital development, and empowerment. Today, we are gathered here to fulfill that solemn promise."
In addition to the scholarships, the Senate President launched the distribution of 16,800 bags of fertilizers to farmers under the Godswill Akpabio Back to Farm Initiative (GABFI), urging the beneficiaries to use the fertilizers wisely for improved yields in the next harvest season.
The event also marked the flag-off of 16,800 bags of rice, which will be distributed across Akwa Ibom’s three senatorial districts to further support local farmers and promote food security. Akpabio stressed that the initiative transcends political affiliations, noting, "Today's flag-off has nothing to do with political party affiliation. It is meant for farmers across party lines. It is intended to ensure food security in Nigeria."
He further lauded President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, thanking him for supporting the initiative by approving the release of free fertilizers to local farmers.
Prominent figures at the event included Akpabio’s wife, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, Deputy Senate Whip Onyekachi Nweboyi, Senators Eteng Williams, Ita Enang, and NDDC Executive Director of Projects, Victor Antai.
