AMREC and YORNNA Partner to Deliver Health Outreach to Families in Ogun State

The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the Yoruba Nurses of North America (YORNNA), successfully conducted a Health Mission Outreach across four locations in Ogun State, providing critical healthcare services to rural families.

AMREC and YORNNA Partner to Deliver Health Outreach to Families in Ogun State

The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the Yoruba Nurses of North America (YORNNA), successfully conducted a Health Mission Outreach across four locations in Ogun State, providing critical healthcare services to rural families.

The outreach took place in Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu, and Ijebu-Imusin, with the Abeokuta session held at the Ake Palace on December 16, 2025. YORNNA, led by its Founder and Convener Prof. Modupe Aka-Bashorun Adebayo (USA), partnered with the Gender Issues and Youth Development Unit (GIYD-AMREC) to mobilise beneficiaries and coordinate services.

Healthcare Services Provided

The outreach offered a wide range of free services, including:

  • Blood pressure and blood glucose screening
  • Visual-acuity tests and provision of eyeglasses
  • Breast cancer awareness campaigns
  • Basic mental health counselling
  • Screening for malaria and other infectious diseases
  • Distribution of welfare and palliative packages

The event was honoured by HRM Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, CFR, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, alongside members of his entourage and Egba High Chiefs.

The outreach team featured AMREC staff, personnel and students from the Department of Home Science and Management (HSM) at FUNAAB, and student nurses from Ogun State Colleges of Nursing, Abeokuta and Ilaro.

A total of 254 beneficiaries received healthcare services during the Abeokuta session alone, highlighting the programme’s impact and FUNAAB’s commitment to community development and public health promotion through strategic partnerships.
