A Split-Site Research Opportunity

The scholarship focuses on a “sandwich” model:

Duration: The scholarship covers a 24-month period at Ghent University.

The bench fee: Ghent University promoter receives €310 per month for research in Ghent and an €8,000 travel budget.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships, candidates must:

Be a national of one of the selected developing countries. See the country list here.

Jointly submit proposals with a supervisor at Ghent University and a supervisor at the partner university in the South.

Research fields are open, with a preference for development-relevant topics.

Be a degree student aiming for a (joint) PhD at Ghent University. Exchange students are not eligible.

Be at the early stages of their PhD, with a minimum of 36 months of research remaining at the start of the fellowship.

Note: Ghent University encourages female researchers to apply. A Ghent University supervisor can support a maximum of two candidates per call, provided they are of different genders.
