ASUU Urges Federal Government to Prioritize Existing Universities Over New Establishments

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Akure Zone, has called on the Federal Government to halt the creation of new universities and instead focus on addressing the numerous challenges facing existing institutions.

The union expressed concern over what it perceives as a misrepresentation of the status of negotiations between ASUU and the government, emphasizing that the establishment of new universities amidst infrastructural deficits and other pressing issues in current universities is counterproductive.

According to ASUU, newly established universities are seen as "crises centres" rather than viable academic institutions, highlighting the need for the government to redirect resources towards improving the quality and functionality of existing universities.
