In a historic achievement, 16-year-old Caleb Smith has etched his name in the annals of aviation as the youngest black pilot in the United States. Hailing from P.G County in Maryland, Caleb's extraordinary accomplishment has been recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), designating him as the youngest glider pilot in the state of Maryland.

His ambition found wings as he regularly took flights with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to nurture his burgeoning interest in aviation. Caleb's determination led him to undergo one-on-one ground instruction and airtime sessions, gradually translating his dream into reality.

Caleb's aviation journey received a significant boost in 2021 when he was awarded a scholarship for gliding school. The scholarship, bestowed by Skyline Soaring Club at Front Royal Airport in Virginia, facilitated Caleb's progress, enabling him to achieve his first solo flight after 33 flights. His remarkable journey continued, with Caleb successfully completing 12 solos and passing the FAA written exam.
