Taraba College of Nursing Leadership Tussle Mischievous, Says Provost
The Provost of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Jalingo, Taraba State, Mrs. Esther Gana, has refuted allegations that she refused to hand over her office after her four-year tenure expired on October 27, 2024.
The Provost of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Jalingo, Taraba State, Mrs. Esther Gana, has dismissed allegations that she refused to vacate her office after her four-year tenure expired. In an exclusive interview with National Accord on Friday, Mrs. Gana clarified that while her tenure officially ended on October 27, 2024, she had to extend her stay due to an emergency international conference in the United States.
Mrs. Gana emphasized that the claims circulating on social media were unfounded and causing unnecessary turmoil. She condemned those responsible for spreading what she described as “mischievous” misinformation, which she believes is tarnishing the institution’s reputation.
“I am not refusing to hand over office,” Mrs. Gana said. “The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is fully aware of my trip, and he not only approved it but also sponsored the journey. There’s no truth to the claims that I am trying to cling to power unlawfully."
In addition, the provost addressed allegations that she had failed to adhere to the state government’s policy of free education and the 50% reduction in school fees. Mrs. Gana categorically denied maintaining an individual bank account for the payment of school fees, describing the accusations as baseless.
She explained that the college’s financial system is managed by an external consultant, whom she referred to as an "eye focus consultant," and the college has no direct involvement with the handling of finances. “The financial affairs of the college are not under my personal control,” she stated. “The consultant is responsible for overseeing all financial matters, in line with government policies.”
Mrs. Gana’s clarifications come as she strives to safeguard the integrity of the college amidst growing online rumors. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to the welfare of the institution and its students.
